What's included
Timber that survives a coastal apartment
Wood on the coast moves. Humidity swings, sun through a terrace door and salt air all act on it. Specified and gapped correctly it lasts; fitted tight against the plaster it bows within a season.
- Species chosen for the room. Oak, walnut and smoked finishes, matched to the light the wall gets.
- Sealed and finished. Lacquered or oiled so the surface copes with humidity and UV.
- Expansion gaps. Left exactly as the manufacturer specifies, which is what stops bowing.
- Scribed around obstacles. Sockets, doors, columns and skirting cut around properly.
- Battens and levelling. Fixed to a level substructure so the face does not follow a bad wall.
- Matching trims. Corners and edges finished in the same timber.
